Ham & Cheese Kindergarten School Lunch

Today was my first kindergarten homeschool day! We had a great time working with the letter “N”. We also took a trip to the library, where my Bigs checked out books on snakes and komodo dragons (ewwwww!). I am so grateful for these precious homeschool days I get with my children!

Here is what I packed for Bigs’ Tuesday school lunch:

I made a ham, cheese (I use Applegate Naturals for both), and mayo sandwich on white wheat. I also packed Horizon Organic cheddar sandwich crackers, a teeny plum, cotton candy grapes, dried dates, and a semi-homemade pumpkin brownie [brownie mix, pumpkin spice, one can of pumpkin].

Circus Week – Elephant VPK School Lunch

For tomorrow’s lunch, I thought I’d go for an elephant theme. And then I started thinking about the movie, “Water for Elephants” and I got really sad. But it had a good ending. So I’m less sad.

I made an elephant shaped PB&J sandwich. I also packed an aprium (those things are SO good!!), some pretzels, watermelon, two iced animal crackers, a few chocolate animal crackers, and an organic yogurt sqeeze.

Circus Week – Lion VPK School Lunch

The countdown to the end of school is here! My big boy has 7 more school days left! This second-to-last-week’s theme is…drumroll……CIRCUS!!!

I think I like the idea of a circus. I don’t remember ever having been to one, although I might have, as a child. I think it would be exciting, what with all the corndogs and cotton candy. I’m not so sure about the animals though. I don’t know enough about their treatment and training to feel comfortable about the way they enjoy their life in the circus.

I like the circus and carnival theme a lot, however. I even used it for my Bigs’ 4th birthday party.

So, for Bigs’ lunch tomorrow:

I went with the lion! I made a lion-shaped PB&J, and used some gold spray and Food Writers to add details. I also packed a beautiful, sweet, fuzzy aprium (a cross between an apricot and a plum), raspberries, blackberries, seasoned corn, a few pretzels, and some iced animal crackers for dessert.

Come one, come all!

Seahorse VPK School Lunch

It’s a new week, and my big kid will be studying the Ocean. I love ocean life. To kick off the week, I made a seahorse themed lunch for my Bigs.

I made a seahorse shaped PB&J. I also packed goldfish crackers (fresh water, I know), red grapes, a mandarin orange, and some trail mix. For dessert, he chose lemon-lime Jell-o. It’s my big boy’s birthday week, so I didn’t mind letting him have this, this time.

I also packed a lunch for my little guy. We are going on a play date and I think he’ll find this to be more enticing than a square sandwich.

I packed the same seahorse sandwich, trail mix, goldfish crackers, red grapes, and iced animal crackers for dessert.

Did you know that seahorses have no stomachs? That’s why they are constantly eating, all day long, just to stay alive. There are also over forty known species of seahorses!

“Peeps” VPK School Lunch

It’s Easter week! That means re-emphasizing our Risen King…and fun Easter lunches! It’s also a short week, with no school on Good Friday, so I’ve got to pack a lot of cute into just three little lunches.

For tomorrow’s lunch, I went with one of my favorite candies – Peeps! While I didn’t use actual Peeps (those are going to be in the boys’ baskets), I made a PB&J into a Peeps shape. Are you Camp Peeps or Camp Ewww?

I used my yellow Food Writers to outline the Peep shape and used gold foodsafe spray to emphasize his color. I used black for his trademark waxy eyeball (which I always nibble off first). I placed him back in his little sandwich nest. I Also packed grapes and strawberries, ice animal crackers, and a few jelly beans for dessert. I used a bunny cupcake pick for decoration. I also used Peeps cupcake wrappers, instead of my silicone ones. I found them at a craft store.

Word up to my peeps,

Kristin

A Book Fair & Two Bitty Lunches

Books. Real live books. The crisp pages. The smell. The rows and rows of newly stacked adventures, waiting to be read. I love books! I am SO thankful that has passed down to my boys. They love books too. We love checking books out at the library and buying books too. This week, at my boys’ school, the Scholastic Book Fair is in town. That was my FAVORITE week growing up. I still have all my old books. Such treasures. I bought the boys some books for Christmas (while they weren’t looking) and we let them each pick out a book tonight. Bigs picked a book called, Creepy Carrots and Smalls picked out a book about a school bus (about which he’s obsessed). Such fun!

Here are their lunches for tomorrow – Smalls:

I packed a PB&J, cut into four squares. He’s also got some animal crackers, golden raisins, and a banana. I’d been packing him grapes for weeks now, just to open his lunchbox at the end of the day to find them still there. #Imslow #nomoregrapes

For my Bigs:

Bigs also has a PB&J, cut into four squares. I also packed pretzels, green grapes, an organic yogurt squeezy thing, and a Halloween cookie.

Blessings to you!
