Pumpkin Bagel Kindergarten School Lunch

wpid-wp-1442262929773.jpg

For tomorrow’s lunch, I packed a bagel with pumpkin cream cheese, a few pretzels, raisins, dried pineapple, cotton candy grapes, strawberries, and colby jack cheese.

Fun fact about today: my sons will only answer to “Leonardo” and “Raphael”.

Heroes in a half shell!

Circus Week – Horse VPK School Lunch

Tomorrow is Bigs’ last circus day. It’s been such a fun week for them. They got their faces painted, they played carnival games, won carnival prizes, and did lots of learning games.

To finish out the week, I went with a horsey lunch. Again, I was thinking about “Water for Elephants”. It’s sort of my go-to circus movie. Well, that and Britney Spears’ “Circus”. You know.

I made a horse shaped PB&J. The poor thing looks like another My Little Pony. I just can’t seem to get a real horse look. Neigh. The grand horsey is standing atop his bread crusty hay. I also packed pretzels, fruit salad (grapes, blackberries, and raspberries), and an organic yogurt squeeze for dessert.

Happy Weekend!

Circus Week – Elephant VPK School Lunch

For tomorrow’s lunch, I thought I’d go for an elephant theme. And then I started thinking about the movie, “Water for Elephants” and I got really sad. But it had a good ending. So I’m less sad.

I made an elephant shaped PB&J sandwich. I also packed an aprium (those things are SO good!!), some pretzels, watermelon, two iced animal crackers, a few chocolate animal crackers, and an organic yogurt sqeeze.

Circus Week – Lion VPK School Lunch

The countdown to the end of school is here! My big boy has 7 more school days left! This second-to-last-week’s theme is…drumroll……CIRCUS!!!

I think I like the idea of a circus. I don’t remember ever having been to one, although I might have, as a child. I think it would be exciting, what with all the corndogs and cotton candy. I’m not so sure about the animals though. I don’t know enough about their treatment and training to feel comfortable about the way they enjoy their life in the circus.

I like the circus and carnivalĀ theme a lot, however. I even used it for my Bigs’ 4th birthday party.

So, for Bigs’ lunch tomorrow:

I went with the lion! I made a lion-shaped PB&J, and used some gold spray and Food Writers to add details. I also packed a beautiful, sweet, fuzzy aprium (a cross between an apricot and a plum), raspberries, blackberries, seasoned corn, a few pretzels, and some iced animal crackers for dessert.

Come one, come all!

This Week’s Lunches

What a busy, busy week I’ve had! Here is what I packed each day:

Tuesday:

wpid-wp-1430953480884.jpeg

I make two little PB&J’s on toasts. I also packed pretzels, blueberries, mandarin orange slices, seasoned corn and a homemade chocolate chip sprinkle cookie.

Wednesday:

wpid-wp-1430953483858.jpeg

I made a PB&J on a hot dog bun. I also packed red grapes, pretzels, strawberries, and a homemade chocolate chip sprinkle cookie.

Thursday was my last Helper Parent day in my Bigs’ class. When he goes to Kindergarten next year, his school doesn’t utilize the Helper Parent system. I will SO miss spending the school day with him. I look forward to starting all over with my Smalls next year! I had to pack three lunches for today:

Smalls got PB&J on a flat bread, broccoli with ranch for dipping, trail mix, and a homemade chocolate chip sprinkle cookie. For myself, I made a salad, packed ranch for dressing, a little piece of flatbread, two dates, and an apple. And for my Bigs, I packed a PB&J on a flat bread, red grapes, dried ginger, dates, strawberries, and a cookie.

And lastly, for tomorrow, Friday:

We had pizza tonight for dinner, so I packed a piece for Bigs. I also packed goldfish (cheeseburger flavor – so weird!), strawberries, grapes, and half of a chocolate chip cookie bar.

I hope you have a great weekend!

“Tired Mom” VPK School Lunch

This lunch could also be called “Hungover from Easter” (not in a drunk way, but in a way where we had a little too much Easter). We had such a busy Friday, weekend, and Monday celebrating Easter that the kids and I are just beyond pooped, especially with swim lessons starting today.

Zzzzzzzz…

Oh! Sorry.

Here is my big one’s lunch for tomorrow:

I put PB&J on a hamburger bun. Because that’s where I’m at. I also packed pretzel sticks, raisins, fruit salad (pineapple, red grapes, and strawberries), and … a fruit-by-the-foot. It was in one of the eggs at today’s egg hunt. He’ll be shocked I’m letting him have it, but delighted.

That’s it. I’m out.

Pet Week – Kitty Cat VPK School Lunch

You know how sometimes your kids say things the wrong way and you don’t want to correct them because it’s so cute? I have many words like that. I want to relish those sweet little made up or wrong words as long as I can. We still refer to “ice cream” as “cup cup” in our house, occasionally, because that is how my Bigs chose to say it when he was around one. And he’d say that a kitty would say “haaaaaa oooooooo” instead of “meow” and my Smalls would call them “cree crats” and say they would meow like “wah wah”. I love it. I love going through the notebooks I’ve got for each one, reading their fun moments and words.

Anyways. While I wipe my tears (caused by knowing they are getting bigger and saying words correctly), look at Bigs’ school lunch for tomorrow:

I made a PB&J “cree crat” with a rather large face. He’s sitting snuggly atop his crusty blankets. I also packed some pretzel nuggets, strawberries, grapes, an organic yogurt squeeze, and a homemade GF DF PB&J cookie.

Haaaaa ooooooooo.

And for my little “cree crat” loving Smalls:

wpid-photogrid_1424295623358.jpg

He requested hummus and carrots, so that’s what he got. I trimmed down a beautiful organic blood orange colored carrot and put it with olive hummus. I also packed grapes, a few pretzel nuggets, dried cranberries, a mozzarella cheese stick, and a PB&J cookie. He’ll probably eat the cheese stick for snack, along with the applesauce I’ll also pack.

Wah wah.

Pet Week – Bunny VPK School Lunch

Tomorrow’s pet-themed lunch could put a spring in your step…bunnies!

wpid-photogrid_1424206745581.jpg

I made a bunny-shaped PB&J, and added some pink and black details. For dessert, Bigs can eat this sweet bunny’s fluffy marshmallow tail (I affixed it with peanut butter). I’d have packed some carrots, but they probably would have gone mostly uneaten. So instead, I packed some colby jack cheese, the sandwich scraps, grapes, strawberries, some little pretzel nuggets (not to be confused with bunny nuggets, you know the kind), and dried cranberries. And I decorated with a few teeny bunny sprinkles.

Boing!

*This would also make for an adorable Easter school lunch*

Pet Week – Turtle VPK School Lunch

Tomorrow begins Pet Week for my Bigs’ class. How exciting! They get to learn all about pet-type animals and vets, and will end the week with a pet parade.

For tomorrow’s lunch, I went with the turtle theme (IĀ should have titled this, “Crooked Turtle” – I realized too late that my picture was off…by a lot. #gotnotimetofix):

wpid-photogrid_1424130323158.jpg

I made a turtle-shaped ham and mayo sandwich. I made his creepy little smile with my Food Writers. I also packed the scraps as his turtle hill (can turtles even go up hills, I need to know), cheese, grapes, strawberries, pretzels, and one gummy worm. I feel like turtles eat worms. (do they, I need to know).
